Chinese Visa Application: A Complete Guide to a Successful Submission

Chinese Visa Application

You will obviously need a visa if you are planning a trip to China. Whether it is for business, tourism, or visiting a family member, a visa is necessary to make it happen. The process may appear a bit complex in the beginning, but do not worry! We have got you covered with a comprehensive guide to make sure your Chinese visa application goes smoothly.

Where to Apply?

The first thing that you need is to know where to submit your application. Even if you are an Australian citizen, you can’t just walk with your application into the Chinese Embassy or Consulate General. But rather, you will be required to head to one of the (or the closest) Chinese Visa Application Service Centers or CVAS located across Australia. The following is where some of the CVAS are located:

  • Canberra: Suite 201, Level 2, Canberra House, 40 Marcus Clarke Street, Canberra, ACT 2600
  • Sydney: Level 1, 140 William Street, Woolloomooloo, NSW 2011
  • Melbourne: Ground Floor, 570 St. Kilda Road, Melbourne, VIC 3004
  • Perth: Ground Floor, 256 Adelaide Terrace, Perth, WA 6000
  • Brisbane: Part Level 4, 140 Ann Street, Brisbane, QLD 4000
  • Adelaide: Suite 1.2, Level 1, 33 King William Street, Adelaide, SA 5000
you will be required to head to one of the (or the closest) Chinese Visa Application Service Centers or CVAS located across Australia.

Each one of these Chinese Visa Application Service Centers (CVAS) is there to serve a specific list of regions. Which is why you must make sure that you are applying to the correct center based on your location.

How to Apply?

You can apply either by mail, or you can apply in person. Both options are available to you.

Applying in Person

  1. Fill Out the Application Form Online: Visit Chinese Visa Application Service Center, complete the online form, Print out the whole form (which is roughly seven pages, usually) and in the end, sign it.
  2. Prepare Your Documents: You must gather all necessary documents (more on this below).
  3. Submit Your Application: As of December 18, 2023, there is going to be no need for an online appointment. Just Head over to the relevant CVAS during their business hours.

Applying by Mail

  1. Fill Out the Application Form Online: The process is the same as for in-person application submission.
